A price check before you pick up the keys
You have enough fuel for today, but a refill is coming. Do you stop on the way home or leave it until after the next price change? FuelAzores brings together the information needed to make that call: the regional price, the date it applies, any confirmed upcoming change, and what the difference means for the amount you normally buy.
Despite the name, FuelAzores covers both the Azores and Madeira, including Porto Santo within the Madeira region. It is free to use, works in Portuguese and English, and lets you check prices without creating an account. Open the price page on a phone or computer to get started. Installing anything is optional.
The website is also a progressive web app, usually shortened to PWA. You can put it on your phone's home screen and open it from its own icon. Dedicated iOS and Android apps are planned for the near future; a release date has not yet been announced. For now, the PWA is the available way to use FuelAzores as an installed app on your phone.
Choose your region and the fuels you buy
Start with the Azores/Madeira switch on the home page. This choice matters even if you are only checking a headline: the two regions have separate pricing rules and different update schedules. Changing region changes the set of prices you are reading. If you are travelling between the archipelagos, make the switch before planning the next purchase.
Open the fuel selector and choose the products you want on screen. You can display several, which is handy for a household with a petrol car and a diesel van. Reorder the selection to put the fuel you use most near the top. Fuel choices are kept for each region, so switching between them need not mean rebuilding the same list every time.
Match the name to the vehicle's fuel requirement. In Portuguese, gasolina means petrol and gasóleo means diesel. Keep the octane grade in view. Specialist categories, such as marked diesel, have their own uses and should not be selected for an ordinary road vehicle just because their price is lower. An unavailable price is also different from a price of zero: if the app has no verified amount for a category, there is no figure to use in a cost estimate.
You can change the interface language in Settings. The numbers still refer to the selected region; choosing English does not change the market or convert euros into another currency.
Read the date beside the price
The large per-litre figure is the starting point. Read its fuel label and effective date together, then look at the change shown alongside it. When a future change has been confirmed, the app can show the upcoming amount and when it starts. At other times, a difference may describe the movement from the previous price to the current one. The date and label tell you which comparison you are seeing.
That distinction matters on a Friday in Madeira or near the end of a month in the Azores. An announcement can already be available while the previous amount still applies. FuelAzores keeps the date attached so that an upcoming decrease does not look like a reduction you can already obtain today. Equally, an increase that has already taken effect is no longer a reason to rush out before it happens.
Open the price details to inspect the official source. The app follows published regional maximum prices for the covered categories. A maximum is the ceiling for that product and period; your receipt can reflect a discount or a different commercial product. If the number at the pump differs, compare the full fuel name and transaction conditions before assuming that either figure is wrong.

Turn a small per-litre change into a refill amount
A few cents are easier to judge when translated into the purchase you have in mind. The home page's sample amounts let you look at common quantities without first entering a vehicle. Pay attention to the selected unit: comparing a fixed number of litres answers a different question from comparing a fixed euro budget.
With litres selected, you are asking how much the same quantity costs at the two prices. With euros selected, you are asking how much fuel the same budget buys. Someone who normally spends €20 may find the budget view more familiar. Someone who usually puts in forty litres can use the volume view and read the difference as money.
Here is an invented example to show the arithmetic. A decrease of €0.030 per litre saves €1.20 on forty litres. If you need only fifteen litres, the difference is €0.45. Neither result requires the car's full tank capacity. Use the quantity you expect to buy, then decide whether the saving justifies changing a stop you were already going to make.
The calculation also assumes comparable sale conditions. An immediate discount at your usual station, an extra journey, or a small top-up needed before the change can alter the result. Save a vehicle for the calculations you repeat
If you return to the same estimate every week, add a vehicle from the vehicle area on the home page or from Settings. Give it a recognisable name, select its fuel, and enter its tank capacity and usual refill amount. A short label such as “family car” is enough. The app does not need a registration number to calculate the cost of fuel.
Tank capacity and usual refill quantity serve different purposes. A car may hold fifty litres but normally receive thirty at a stop. Entering fifty everywhere would make the estimate larger than your usual purchase. Choose a default vehicle to provide the reference quantities used by the app, and edit the entry when your circumstances change.
For two cars using different fuels, keep separate entries. You can then recognise which estimate belongs to which vehicle instead of mentally converting the same figure each time. Remove a sold vehicle or a holiday rental when you no longer need it. Vehicle details are saved on this device; they are not readings from the car, and the app does not know how much fuel is currently in the tank.
There is no account-based vehicle list to follow you automatically between phones. If you open FuelAzores in another browser or on a new device, check its preferences and add the vehicles you need there. Keep that in mind before clearing browser storage, because locally saved settings can be lost.
Add FuelAzores to your iPhone or Android home screen
A PWA gives you a convenient way back to the service without finding a browser tab. The FuelAzores icon opens the web app, which uses the same regional prices as the website. You can keep using the browser version if that suits you; installation is a convenience, not a condition for reading prices or history.
On an iPhone, open FuelAzores in Safari, open the sharing menu, and select Add to Home Screen. If the sharing control is hidden, look in the More menu. Leave Open as Web App enabled when offered, then confirm Add. Open FuelAzores from the new icon. Apple's current iPhone instructions illustrate the controls, which vary with the Safari layout.
On Android, open FuelAzores in Chrome and look in its three-dot menu for the installation option. Current Chrome instructions use Install and create shortcut, followed by Install; some browser versions use shorter wording. Confirm the prompt and open the new icon. Google's web app help covers installation and removal.
FuelAzores also shows installation help on the Help page. If a supported browser offers an Install button, you can use it directly. If no prompt appears, the browser menu is the next place to check. Opening the site inside another app's small browser can expose fewer controls, so use Safari or Chrome directly when following the steps above.
Enable alerts, then send yourself a test
In Settings, find Price alerts and select Enable alerts. The browser or operating system will ask for permission when required. Once enabled, use Send a test alert to check the setup on that device. This is worth doing while you have the phone in hand, rather than discovering later that a permission was blocked.
Review the selected region and notification fuel as part of setup. Displaying several fuels on the home page is not a promise that one notification subscription covers every row. Check the alert preference itself and the vehicle or refill quantity used in its estimates. The reminder setting is separate from the main notification switch and can be adjusted there too.
On iPhone and iPad, web push requires a supported system and a home-screen web app; Apple introduced this support in iOS and iPadOS 16.4. Open the installed FuelAzores icon before enabling alerts. Permission must follow your action, and system notification settings still apply. The platform details are explained in WebKit's web push documentation.
If you previously denied permission, pressing the same button may not produce another prompt. Check the browser's site permissions and the phone's notification settings. Also reconnect if the app is offline. The Help page covers common cases. A successful test confirms that the test reached you; it cannot guarantee that every future alert will arrive immediately under all network and device conditions.
Alerts concern confirmed changes, so the absence of a message should not be treated as a forecast that next week's or next month's price will stay the same. Before a purchase where timing matters, open the app and read the current information.
Use History to put this week's number in context
Open History to explore the available record for the selected region. The range controls let you look across one, two, five, or ten years, and the calendar-year view helps with a particular year. Availability varies by fuel and period. Choosing a long range does not mean that every category has a complete record throughout it.
Use the legend to identify fuel series and inspect a point for its amount, effective date, and source. A line rising between two points is a visual connection between recorded values. Switching between straight and smooth presentation changes that appearance; it does not produce a forecast or establish an official price for every point along the curve.
For a household question, start small: compare the fuel you actually buy over the period you remember, then widen the range if needed. A chart can explain whether the reference price rose, but it cannot explain your whole fuel bill without the litres purchased. More driving can raise spending during a period of falling prices. Receipts and mileage records answer that separate part of the question.
What happens when the connection drops?
After you have used the app online, saved information may remain available when the connection is lost. FuelAzores marks this as saved information so you can distinguish it from a fresh check. Treat the displayed date seriously: cached prices cannot tell you whether another official announcement arrived while your phone was disconnected.
Reconnect before relying on a time-sensitive refuelling decision. The app pauses refuelling recommendations while offline, and notification setup needs a connection. A first visit without internet cannot download information that the device has never received. Nor should you assume that every history range or linked document has been saved just because the home page opens.
The articles in this section are separate web pages and currently require an internet connection. If you are leaving coverage, make any necessary checks beforehand. Installation helps you reopen the service; it does not turn your phone into a continuously updated copy of every source.
Your preferences, privacy, and a way to get help
Browsing prices does not require an email address. Region, fuel choices, language, and vehicle details personalise the experience on your device. Enabling notifications requires the service to keep the installation and subscription information needed to deliver them. The privacy page explains the data involved and the available controls.
Use Settings to disable notifications or request deletion of the associated data. Complete the deletion while online so the server request can be confirmed. Removing the home-screen icon or clearing local browser data should not be assumed to complete the same server-side action. If you intend to start again on a different phone, deal with the old installation's preferences first where possible.
For help, open the Help page and use its email link, which opens your own mail app. Describe the region, fuel, screen, and date relevant to the problem. For an installation issue, include your browser and phone type. For a price question, include the source or receipt that raised it, leaving out unnecessary personal information. Those details make an issue much easier to reproduce than a message saying only that the price looks wrong.
What is next for the iOS and Android apps?
Dedicated iOS and Android releases are the next planned step for FuelAzores. They are intended to bring the service to the mobile app stores in the near future. There is no announced release date yet, and this guide does not provide App Store or Google Play download links because those releases are not available here today.
The present option is the working website and its installable PWA. You can already choose a region, follow supported fuel prices, explore history, save vehicle preferences, and set up alerts on compatible devices. There is no need to postpone using those features until the store versions arrive.
When the native releases are ready, this guide can be updated with the official listings and any changes to setup. Until then, start with the FuelAzores home page, select your region and fuel, and check the date beside the price. That is enough for the first useful visit; the vehicle settings and home-screen icon can come afterwards.
